Indian Ring Size Guide: How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home
Getting your ring size right matters more than almost any other detail when buying a ring online. Here's how to measure it accurately at home, using the Indian sizing scale.
Method 1: Measure an Existing Ring
Take a ring that already fits the correct finger. Measure the internal diameter in millimetres using a ruler, or wrap a strip of paper around the inside edge and measure its length with a ruler to get the internal circumference. Compare this to a standard Indian ring size chart to find your size.
Method 2: Measure Your Finger Directly
Wrap a strip of paper or string snugly around the base of your finger — not too tight, not loose enough to slide off. Mark where the string overlaps, measure that length in millimetres, and match it against a sizing chart. For the most accurate result, measure at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest, and avoid measuring when your hands are cold.
Indian Ring Sizing, Explained
Indian ring sizes run on a numeric scale, generally from around 1 to 30, based on the internal circumference or diameter of the ring. This differs from the US/UK sizing systems, so if you have a ring size from an international jeweller, always convert it rather than assuming the number is the same.
Tips for an Accurate Measurement
- Measure 2–3 times and take the most consistent result.
- Fingers are slightly larger in warm weather and in the evening — measure under normal, comfortable conditions.
- Wider bands fit more snugly than thin bands, so if you're choosing a wide ring, consider sizing up slightly.
- When in doubt between two sizes, most jewellers recommend rounding up rather than down.
